CCHS JVB bow to Winchester

The JVB team visited Winchester and was defeated 5-2 in atough physical battle. Winchester has a strong soccer program and their JVBteam had an edge over CCHS in both size and speed.

Winchester dominated the first two thirds of the game asCCHS struggled with field conditions and failed to find a flow. The home teamscored two goals in the first half and the tally could have been worse had itnot been for multiple saves by goalie Catherine Lilly.

The home team’s dominance continued in the first 15minutes of the second half as they poured in three more goals. The last 20minutes of the game were CCHS’s best as the players settled down and executedbetter on fundamentals. The team also amped up their physical intensity, with strong tackling particularly by Clara Lewis, Iola Chen and Jackie White.  Their efforts were rewarded with two goals to close outthe game. The first was a corner by Elizabeth Walsh that spun into the goal offa Winchester defender. The second was a very strong 25 yard shot by AveryJohnson into the upper right corner.

JVB next plays host to Bedford on Thursday September 12
